In January 2010 we began a new club at Crossroads for some of our students. We selected 19 students to participate in our Cake Decorating Club with Ms Sousa, an EHMS staff member whose hobbies include cake decorating. She was excited to share her love and expertise of the craft with the students who were eager to learn.
Since all of our students participate in cooking class, the new club members knew the basics of working in a kitchen. Using this knowledge, they took their love of the kitchen a step further and focused on the presentation of baked goods. From cakes to cookies, cupcakes to pastries, our budding decorators are learning techniques that create memorable designs with frosting.
Crossroads students have been exposed to a variety of activities that provide them with entrepreneurial opportunities. Students have learned skills that can help them find and focus their interested and abilities, while showing them the value of these skills in the real world. One day our Crossroads students may own and run a variety of businesses including, a bakery, nail salon, hair salon, gardening center or even a restaurant.
Combining their love of cooking and a background in entrepreneurship our students embarked on their colorful (and sugary) journey. We will showcase several of the club’s tasty projects here, as well as show their progress through photographs. Enjoy and Bon Appétit!
